Lex Albrecht – Athlete Spotlight at RaceVisa.com
One of our favorite things to do at Race Vista is to introduce our featured athletes. Not only do we see this as an opportunity to highlight racers who deserve some time in the spotlight, but we know that the stories and photos of featured athletes will likely serve as inspiration to others. We have the privilege of introducing Lex Albrecht.
We have the good fortune of working with the Women’s Cycling Association (WCA) on a collaboration, and part of that collaboration involves featuring two female racers they have identified as spotlight athletes for Race Vista. One of these tremendous athletes is Lex Albrecht, a seasoned professional who has an extraordinary list of accomplishments, and still has a bright future of racing ahead of her. We’ve got a short bio, directly from Lex, below. Below her bio you will find a slideshow where you can see and add your own photos of Lex racing, training, or on the podium.
My name is Lex Albrecht. I’m a professional Canadian road cyclist. I race primarily in North America, and since 2009 have spent blocks of each race season in Europe. (France, Belgium, Italy, Germany, The Netherlands, and Sweden).
I’m based out of Montréal and I don’t flee the cold weather in the off-season, so my training regiment is a little different than some of my California based teammates. I train at a place in Montréal called PowerWatts. What I love about training there is the impressive amount of resources they have in one place (equipment, specialists, and facilities). As I gain more experience as an athlete over the years, I’ve learned that it’s important to work efficiently and eliminate needless stress. Training at PowerWatts lets me do that since they’re like a turn-key package for any athlete who wants the to get the best out of what their body can give. I also do a lot of XC skiing in the winter. It’s great for endurance, coordination and strength, and a way to enjoy being outside when the weather is … less than balmy.
I’ve represented Canada at the World Championships in 2012 and 2013. It’s without a doubt, the biggest event of every season, except in Olympic years. I’ve been on the podium at 3 different Canadian National Championship events and I hold 4 Champion of Québec titles. One thing that I love about racing though is that every event can be so different from another one. I like to take every training session and every race start individually, and focus on giving my best every single time. When things don’t go as I’ve liked, as long as I can identify why and figure out how I can be better next time, I try not to sweat it too much.
I’ve had the opportunity to race for some very awesome teams and I really appreciate the support of all of the partners and sponsors that they have allowed me to be associated with. I’m especially thankful to Nuheat Industries who have supported me as an athlete for the past few years. The Global Relay Bridge the Gap Fund has also stepped in to help me work towards reaching more of my athletic goals while I represent my country, my sport, and every single person who wants to give the best of what they have, plus a little bit more :).
